Fathers day is coming soon and many of us find it hard to find something special for dad on that day. One of my friends several years ago came up with an idea about the Penguins( a father and his two sons). It was a great idea and we have made them in several configurations for several years. Maybe someone will come up with a new classic but this one still stands as one of the best. We also do many names, motorcycles, fish, boats, planes and trains for dad every year. Fathers day gift ideas are sometimes hard to figure out, but usually DAD has something he is interested in and we can customize it into a Money Clip or Key Chain that he will use a year long.
Rooster Fish Money Clip
Rooster Fish Money Clip -what a great project, a new fish for my collection. Fishing money clips are one of my passions. Fly Fishing is a great sport and we are lucky to live in Colorado where there is plenty of fishing opportunities. One of my customers requested this beautiful fish and although I have never caught one, I would love to do so. Money Clips and Key Chains make great venues for Fishing themed gifts. Once in a while someone will ask for a hat pin, and sometimes I can do them depending on the fish. Let us design a fish piece for you….
Custom 2004 Corvette Money Clip
One of my customers contacted me this holiday season for a money clip that needed to have a 2004 Corvette on it. The Customer also wanted the spring loaded style so that the recipient could put a drivers license ,credit cards and some cash in it. This particular project’s artwork was done in 14k yellow gold but could have been done in any metal such as silver or brass. After I made a drawing so that i would have a pattern to make the Corvette, I fabricated the Corvette and the initials for the project. The yellow gold Corvette and initials looked stunning on the silver background and the clip was delivered to our customer for the gift giving occasion.
Bear Claw Pendant
Bear claw pendants are something you get asked to do from time to time when you live in the Southwest and make southwestern jewelry. This piece was commissioned by one of my customers recently and they had some scrap gold to use for the bear. The gold Bear which is attached to the silver cap is a Heartline Bear which symbolizes health, long life, and good luck. This Bear Claw was a fairly large one and the piece ended up outstanding.
Buffalo Nickel Earrings with Silver Feathers
The old classic buffalo nickel is back and what a great pair of earrings these Nickels make. Jessie White took an old feather pattern of mine and turned this classic into a spectacular pair of earrings. One of the things that always bothered me about southwest jewelry was the amount of cast items that are attached for this type of earring. These Feathers are the real deal each one hand fabricated as a silversmith really should. The Buffalo Nickel Earrings come in either Buffalo or Indian side out and make a wonderful addition to anyone’s jewelry collection.
Personalized Money Clips
Personalized money clips are a wonderful holiday gift that can be a great keepsake for that loved one who is hard to shop for. Have you ever looked at the commercial money clips in jewelry stores at the mall? They usually have the personality of an empty soup can and most are not even made in the United States. Skystone and Silver LLC
prides itself in having more than 500 designs in Sterling Silver Money Clips, and offers free design services when you have an idea but don’t see it in our collection.
Names, Initials, Sayings, Hobbies ……almost anything can be done on the top of a money clip, and don’t forget Spring Loaded Money Clips are available too.
Shotgun charm for competition shooter

K80 Krieghoff Shotgun Charm
This last week a friend of mine who shoots competition shotguns asked me if i could make a replica of his favorite shotgun to hang from his truck mirror. I wasn’t sure how i was going to proceed so i got a picture of his shotgun and started to draw a pattern. This was not going to be like the Glock Pistol I did last year. So I just decided to jump in with no more thinking about it. The vent rib on the top was the hardest part, each of those holes had to be drilled and then cut one by one with a jewelers saw. Overall its about 2.75 inches. I had breakfast with him on Saturday and watched his eyes light up when he saw the finished product. Projects like this are not always the normal jewelry project for most jewelers. They can be fun, challenging and very rewarding. This particular charm might make a good design for a Money Clip for the Holidays.
Motorcycle Pendant for Silent Auction
This week I was asked by a local group to make something for a silent auction to help with medical expenses for a man who had Heart surgery. These are very expensive surgeries and even if you have health insurance a lot of expenses do not get paid. This particular family was associated with one of our motorcycle organizations Pueblo Bikers United so I thought a motorcycle pendant would be appropriate. These pieces are fun to make and are quite unusual because of the technique that is used to make it. This is not a casting from a mold, it is a fabricated piece with each detail being cut out of sheet metal and then layered on to make the motorcycle. Almost any model motorcycle can be produced this way even a custom bike. All we need is a side view picture and we can make a pendant for your motorcycle enthusiast.
Miners Pick and Shovel Pendant
One of my long time friends Tano Welch asked me last week to make him a piece of jewelry to wear for his reunion in Trinadad Colorado. The Trinadad Miners as their called is a school from an area with a rich mining history and the pick and shovel seemed to fit. After hand fabricating the piece I decided to add a bail that resembled some of the ladel hooks used in the CF&I Steel Mill where my dad worked his entire career. A lot of the mining in Trinadad was associated with CF&I Steel and I thought it would be a fitting touch.
Elks Money Clip a great gift
One of the great things that I get to do on almost a daily basis is make someones day special. A special friend of mine asked me to create a gift for a very special relative of his. He gave me some info about this person and part of that was that he was a member of the Elks Lodge. What a great organization and lots of history. I decided to do an overlay, which is metal overlayed on top of metal. This technique is one of my favorites and as you can see the results were outstanding.
