Nickel Allergies and Jewelry

Do I have a nickel Allergy?

Symptoms of a nickel allergy arise from contact, usually repeated contact with items containing the metal nickel or various nickel compounds.

Nickel Allergy- common symptoms

The most common symptom is chronic itching (purities). The itching is often combined with a red rash, raised bumps and broken skin. Itchy red rash around your belt buckle or blue jeans button that often contains nickel, or an itchy rash around your watch or on the ears in the case of nickel earrings. Itchy rash on ring finger or over areas where nickel-containing jewelry might be worn is often associated with this nickel sensitivity or allergy. Most medical dermatologist can do patch tests to determine if you have nickel sensitivity but most medical doctors do not have a treatment for this condition other than instructing you to avoid contact with nickel containing jewelry, belt buckles, buttons etc. Most Sterling Silver and Yellow Gold Jewelry does not have Nickel in it. White Gold Jewelry has been made with Nickel but new alloys contain no Nickel.

  12. I really loved this post. You explain this topic very well. Natural gemstones are found in nature. Laboratory-created stones, as the name implies, are made in a laboratory. These stones, which also are referred to as laboratory-grown, manufacturer-created, or synthetic, have essentially the same chemical, physical, optical, and visual properties as natural gemstones. By contrast, imitation stones look like natural stones in appearance only, and may be a manmade or natural stones. The basic unit for weighing gemstones is the carat, which is equal to one-fifth (1/5th) of a gram. Carats are divided into 100 units, called points. When gemstones are measured by dimensions, the size is expressed in millimeters (for example, 7×5 millimeters). Gemstone treatments or enhancements refer to the way some gems are treated to better their appearance or resilience, or even change their color. Many gemstones are treated in some way. The effects of some treatments may lessen or change over time and some treated stones may require special care. Treatments and/or enhancements should always be disclosed by the seller.
